Integrating Light
Everything is light, and light moves in waves. Walter Russell drew the elements not as a grid of particles but as ten octaves of one wave — a scale of tones, each with its own color and its own note. Move through it, touch it, and listen.
“Matter is light. Nothing is which is not light.”
Turn the sound on — every tone has its own note, and you'll hear each one as you explore.
I · The octave
One octave, eight tones
Every octave on Russell's chart is the same wave. It leaves the line of stillness, winds up through three charging tones to a crest, unwinds through three discharging tones, and comes to rest in an inert gas — the master tone — before the next octave begins.
The textbooks count particles to explain why the elements repeat. Russell heard why: they repeat because they are a scale. His circular chart writes a color and a note beside each tone — red through yellow, C down to G, on the charging side; green through violet, F down to D, on the discharging side. Those are the colors of this whole page. Wherever you see yellow, you are standing on a crest.
II · The ten octaves
The ten octaves of integrating light
“Diagram showing the ten octaves of integrating light, one octave within the other. These ten octaves constitute one complete cycle of the transfer of the universal constant of energy into, and through, all of its dimensions in sequence.”
Follow the wave down from Alphanon. The first three octaves hold tones no laboratory has isolated — Russell named them anyway, because the wave requires them. Hydrogen, “the first element”, arrives only as the first tone of the fourth octave. From the seventh octave the wave swings wide, and the metals crowd in around each crest as mid-tones. The faint twin beside each wave is its opposite: no motion without its reaction.
Hover or tap any tone. Tap an octave's name to hear its scale. With a tone focused, the arrow keys walk the wave.

III · The wheel
The wheel of the elements
Russell's circular chart is the same wave seen from above: a spiral out of absolute zero, each octave half a turn. The master tones fall on one horizontal line — the line of the inert gases — alternating either side of the centre. Every crest stands on the vertical carbon line.
Read along any spoke and you meet a family. The lithium line runs Irenon, Jamearnon, Marconium, hydrogen, lithium, sodium, potassium, rubidium, caesium, francium — the alkali metals the textbooks group by counting, found here by tone.
IV · The law
All direction is curved. All motion is spiral.
— the two headings of Russell's chart of the electro-magnetic process of mass formation
“Mass is an accumulation of the universal constant of energy into higher potential. The greater the mass the greater the potential. Mass accumulates inductively along the centripetal lines of closing spirals, and is rotated by the impact of genero-active force. Mass dissipates conductively along centrifugal lines of opening spirals, and is rotated by the expulsion of radio-active force. These opposite forces are the cause of rotation of mass.”
V · Cymatics
Sound made visible
Scatter sand on a plate and sound it. The sand leaves every place that moves and gathers on the lines that stand still — the figure of the tone. Russell's wave says the same of all matter: form gathers where motion comes to rest.
Here every tone of every octave has its own figure. Higher octaves draw finer figures; charging tones and discharging tones draw mirror-opposite ones; the master tones draw rings — spheres of rest.
“However, this is not an unregulated chaos; it is a dynamic but ordered pattern.”
The lineage
VI · Tesla
The wheelwork of nature
“Throughout space there is energy. Is this energy static or kinetic? If static our hopes are in vain; if kinetic—and this we know it is, for certain—then it is a mere question of time when men will succeed in attaching their machinery to the very wheelwork of nature.”
Tesla never stopped speaking of the medium the physicists later wrote out of their equations — the ether that carries every wave. He and Russell met. As Lao Russell told it, when Russell showed Tesla his cosmogony, Tesla's advice was to hide it:
“Tesla told him that he would have to seal it in a sepulchre with instructions that it be opened in a thousand years when human intelligence had unfolded far enough to be ready to accept it.”
“Long ago he recognized that all perceptible matter comes from a primary substance, of a tenuity beyond conception and filling all space—the Akasha or luminiferous ether—which is acted upon by the life-giving Prana or creative force, calling into existence, in never ending cycles, all things and phenomena.”
Two tones, one figure
The wheelwork is harmony. Give each of two vibrations an axis and let them draw together: when their ratio is simple — an octave, a fifth — the line closes into one still, turning form. Choose two tones of the octave.
